Attracting the Next Generation of Researchers
In the end of 2024, we asked the IETS Task Managers to reflect on the past year and lean forward into the year to come. Below are the answers from Frank Lipnizky, Task Manager for Task XVII – Membrane Processes in Biorefineries.
What has been the most rewarding in your Task work during 2024?
IETS Online Workshop of Task XVII: Membranes in biorefineries organized by AEE and TU Graz (both Austria) on the 18th of September 2024. The successful workshop was a well-balanced mixture of keynotes and lectures. Furthermore, two discussion rounds focused on (1) novel membrane module configurations to overcome existing process bottlenecks and on (2) volatile recovery from waste streams.
Furthermore, the Task Meeting of Task XVII: Membranes in biorefineries organized in conjunction with the Nordic Filtration Symposium was definitely a highlight, describeed in a separate news item.
What has been the biggest challenge?
To attract new members. However, we are on a good way to sign some new members in 2025.
What do you look forward to (or hope for) the most for 2025?
We hope to organize a PhD Course related to Task XVII to attract the attention of the next generation of researchers for the important topic “Membranes in biorefineries”. Furthermore, we are planning another workshop in 2025.
