Final Report: Electrification in Industry
Task XIX – Electrification in Industry aims to serve as a platform for enhancing collaboration between countries in the area of industrial electrification. The focus of the Task is on the system aspects of industrial electrification, aiming to foster the creation of a “critical mass” in this area. Task XIX has had two subtasks so far:
1) Mapping of activities, which was completed in 2020, and
2) Enabling a shared view on system aspects of industrial electrification. This synthesis report concentrates on the main findings of subtask 2.
This Subtask involves taking stock of technologies for the electrification of industry, sharing and aligning insights and methodologies, identifying best practices, and broadening awareness by facilitating sharing. The task considers both direct electrification and indirect electrification (via hydrogen) of industry. The Subtask delves into three main thematic areas in industrial electrification:
i) technology development,
ii) systems analysis and impacts,
iii) infrastructure and sector coupling.
